The "azulejos" introduced by the Moors were originally white and blue tiles and were deeply loved by the Portuguese. When King Manuel I of Portugal visited the Alhambra Palace in southern Spain, he was deeply fascinated by these dazzling Moorish decorations. This fascinated the king, and he immediately ordered the same thing to be repeated in his palace.
